The ISO 14064 standard refers to the quantification, monitoring, reporting, and verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It is intended for businesses of all sectors and sizes that wish to measure and reduce their carbon footprint, while also strengthening their environmental responsibility and compliance with modern sustainability requirements.
Implementing the standard significantly contributes to climate change management, which is currently one of the most critical global challenges.
ISO 14064 consists of three parts:
- ISO 14064-1: Outlines the principles and requirements for the quantification and reporting of GHG emissions at the organizational level. It covers all relevant sources, energy use, and activities.
- ISO 14064-2: Focuses on GHG emission reduction or removal enhancement projects. It is used to document the environmental performance of investments or actions, such as energy efficiency upgrades, renewable energy projects, recycling initiatives, etc.
- ISO 14064-3: Specifies the requirements and process for the independent verification of GHG statements by accredited certification bodies (e.g., Eurocert). It includes guidelines for internal audits, data quality assurance, reporting, and organizational responsibilities.
