Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently verified and registered document that provides quantitative information about the environmental impacts of a product or service throughout its entire life cycle, in accordance with internationally recognized standards.
The EPD is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which is conducted following specific Product Category Rules (PCR) and the requirements of ISO 14025, ISO 14040, and ISO 14044 standards. The result is valid, transparent, and comparable environmental documentation, verified by an independent third party.
Who It Concerns
An EPD can be developed by any organization or business, regardless of size or activity, that wishes to:
- Document the environmental performance of its products/services
- Improve its environmental performance
- Communicate the environmental characteristics of its products transparently to clients, partners, and consumers
- Participate in green procurement programs, public tenders, or meet the requirements of B2B partners
It is particularly useful for organizations already certified with ISO 14001 or EMAS, as it offers an additional, quantifiable tool for environmental documentation.

Benefits of Implementing and Issuing an EPD
Adopting an Environmental Product Declaration offers multiple benefits:
- Documents and publicly discloses the environmental performance of a product or service with transparency and credibility
- Highlights environmentally friendly products, enhancing competitiveness
